The state of Minnesota currently has two renewal options for your EMR certification:
Option 1: MN ONLY – OEMS-approved 24-Hour refresher course (Impact EMS is not an OEMS approved provider)
Option 2: MN + NREMT – NREMT Recertification, 16-hour NCCP
Note: If you are renewing through NREMT, you must first complete your NREMT recertification and ensure your transcript is finalized. Then, log into eLicense and manually transfer the NREMT transcript and supporting documents.
Minnesota state-certified EMR’s are required to renew their certification every two years, with certifications expiring on October 31st of their expiration year. Providers are also required to show proof of valid CPR certification.
NREMT required across all provider levels in 2036.
The NREMT EMR National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) requires a total of 40 hours of continuing education to recertify. The model requires continuing education in three components: (1) a national component, (2) a local/state component, and (3) an individual component.
Nationally Registered EMRs (NREMT) are required to renew their certification every two years by September 30th of their expiration year.
