Impact EMS is excited to partner with the Peoria Fire Department to provide an in-person K9 Emergency Care course.
K9 Emergency Care.
Do you work closely with Operational K9s and want to increase your medical knowledge if one of them were to require emergency care?
Operational K9s are all around us daily, working jobs in Law Enforcement, Military, and Search and Rescue. Having an awareness of the differences in treating these K9 patients can make a world of difference in their outcomes. You never know what skills you may need when having these skills in your back pocket could make a world of difference for an animal.
We’ve also designed this course to be fun and insightful even if you don’t work alongside a furry partner. Sometimes you need a change of pace, and this course will have you performing mucosal assessments and palpating for veins on your animals in no time!
Let’s Talk Specifics.
Eight (8) CAPCE-approved hours of LIVE In-Person training and six (6) online training modules cover an introduction to K9s, anatomy, performing assessments, other emergencies, guidelines specific to K9s, and more. You will be able to comfortably care for or assess an operational K9 if needed.
Who is This Course Intended For?
We created this course for everyone who could potentially encounter or provide care to an operational K9. Not only prehospital healthcare providers such as EMTs and paramedics but also police officers and K9 handlers, firefighters, search and rescue teams utilizing dogs, and others.
While we provide guidance and education in the subject, just like in humans, the goal with operational K9 is always to get them transported to definitive care from a licensed Veterinarian as soon as possible.
