Licensure & Recertification Requirements for EMR, EMT, AEMT & Paramedics
Arkansas follows NREMT requirements for EMS recertification.
State component hours need to be Arkansas-specific.
Our full refreshers do not currently meet all of these requirements. Additional hours will be required.

Arkansas EMR Recertification
The state of Arkansas currently follows NREMT recertification requirements, except that it requires AR-specific hours (see bolded below):
Nationally Registered EMRs are required to renew their certification every two years by September 30th of their expiration year.
NREMT Requirement = 16 CEUs
- The National Component (NCCP) requires EMRs to complete eight (8) hours of approved continuing education.
- One and a half (1.5) hours of Airway/Respiratory/Ventilation
- Two (2) hours of Cardiac
- One (1) hour of Trauma
- Two and a half (2.5) hours of Medical
- One (1) hour of Operations
- State Component requires four (4) hours that are flexible but must be directly related to EMS patient care.
- Arkansas Trauma System (2)
- Ethics & Professionalism (2)
- Individual Component requires four (4) hours that are flexible but must be directly related to EMS patient care.
- New to 2025 NCCP guidelines, 10% of the sixteen (16) total required hours must focus on pediatric topics.
- EMRs need one point six (1.6) hours specific to pediatric education

Arkansas EMT Recertification
The state of Arkansas currently follows NREMT recertification requirements, except that it requires AR-specific hours (see bolded below):

- State Component requires ten (10) hours that are flexible but must be directly related to EMS patient care.

- The National Component (NCCP) requires EMTs to complete twenty-five (25) hours of approved continuing education.
- Five (5) hours of Airway/Respiratory/Ventilation
- Six (6) hours of Cardiac
- Four (4) hours of Trauma
- Seven (7) hours of Medical
- Three (3) hours of Operations
- State Component requires twelve and a half (12.5) hours that are flexible but must be directly related to EMS patient care.

Arkansas Paramedic Recertification

Nationally Registered paramedics are required to renew their certification every two years by March 31st of their expiration year.
NREMT Requirement = 60 CEUs
- The National Component (NCCP) requires paramedics to complete sixty (60) hours of approved continuing education.
- Six (6) hours of Airway/Respiratory/Ventilation
- Seven (7) hours of Cardiac
- Five (5) hours of Trauma
- Eight (8) hours of Medical
- Four (4) hours of Operations
- State Component requires fifteen (15) hours that are flexible but must be directly related to EMS patient care.
